2022 will be a year full of new music from Gill T. Starting with the single “Deed I Do” on January 1st, which is the day the song enters the public domain. This 1926 jazz standard by Fred Rose and Walter Hirsch gets an all new alternative western swing arrangement which will be the debut release from new artist persona Gill T.
More singles will follow including “Honest Mistake” which was featured on the All Songs Considered blog in 2019 as a “Desks in the Wild” Tiny Desk Contest entry but until now the song has not had an official studio recording release.
The remaining 2022 release schedule from Gill includes an album of new recordings in April, an instrumental album with the working title “Intrigue and Mystery” which was recorded in the Spring of 2021, and finally bringing back the best of the Gillwire catalog with a few new additions. A re-release is needed because the 2016 and 2018 Gillwire albums “Silver Streak” and “The Grand Biography” are currently not publicly available.
about the artist
The music of Jonathan Gill Thwaits, aka Gill T. comes primarily from his love of (or perhaps obsession with) old pop music. His sensibility is that of a sweet choir boy turned 90’s goth teen who took a turn down tin pan alley; for that is precisely his story.
He has been applying his love of instruments and music theory to composition for decades, much of that time spent as an eclectic songwriter and performer. In 2016 and 2018 he released albums under the name of his twitter handle, Gillwire, and since then took a detour composing for film and honing his orchestration skills. Now he returns as an indie-pop songwriter revitalized as Gill T. with a stack of music to share and a commitment to fulfil the vision.
